My Journey So Far
From
childhood, I grew up with the ambition to be an engineer because I found my
interest in technology and technical understanding. But later on, I found
myself poor in mathematics and developed interest in Visual Arts. So, I joined the
Art College after the school education (G-10th). Since that time, I lived my
life with the aspiration to be an artist. My dedication towards art developed
day-by-day. I explored various mediums in arts beside my curriculum. Being
passionate for teaching from the very beginning, I took tuitions along with art
education to earn my expenditure for art material. I was very sincere and
responsible towards my students’ learning. After completion of my art
education, I worked as a full time artist, participating in several exhibitions
and shows. At that time, I was self-centred and thought that I would develop my
own understanding in the field of art.
As
a blessing in disguise, life brought me to a situation wherein I was required
to have a regular earning as a necessity. As I was passionate for teaching, I
chose to be an art educator. I joined The Heritage School, Rohini, Delhi, where
I got the platform and support to explore ‘art in education’. I dealt with my
students’ learning using my own experiences of childhood when I was a learner.
Even then, I aspired to be an artist. But when I saw the movie, ‘Tare Zameen
Par’, I could relate to Ishaan. I had the similar problem of dyslexia. But at
that time, my family and teachers were not aware about it. Touched by that
movie and as a reflection, my purpose of life shifted to be an art educator
where I practise art not only for my own self, but also to serve the society
with its huge potential.
Thereafter,
I started exploring and researching several educational theories and diagnostic
potentialities of art. I joined Presidium as an HOD because I can serve a
larger community by working across several branches. This aspiration derived me
to join Currimakers where I had intense learning about education, pedagogy,
androgogy, educational psychology, etc. There I got the opportunity to train
pre-service as well as in-service art teachers which was a great learning
experience for me.
Now,
I want to work in the field of deeper studies in art from such a platform where
I can get full support and encouragement. I want to develop deep understanding
about art and its potentialities in the group of students which in turn, would
lead them to develop themselves not only as a thoughtful and skilled artist,
but also as a contributor in building a sensible society.
